The Highland Cup is a unique Ryder Cup Format competition that began in 2008. It is played each fall with representatives from three teams competing for the cup. Each team consists of 28 players, including one Captain, one Assistant Captain, 24 Qualifiers, and two Captain's Picks. The competition spans over three days and involves 72 Holes of Match Play using four different formats.
The event begins on Thursday evening with all three teams coming together for a night of food, fun, and camaraderie. This is when the weekend’s pairings and matches are announced. The competition officially starts on Friday with Team Matches playing a Better Ball of Partners format. It continues Saturday with Team Matches playing Alternate Shot and Pinehurst formats and concludes on Sunday with Singles Matches.
The Highland Cup is unique in that three teams are competing for the title. Team Matches play in six-somes, and Singles Matches play in three-somes, with three separate matches in each pairing group. Each team is awarded 1 Point for a match won, ½ Point for a match halved, and 0 Points for a match lost. The team that accumulates the most points at the end of the competition is named Highland Cup Champions!
